(No bread machine required!)
Fresh bread dipped in olive oil with fresh herbs and sea salt... It’s so good. It’s one of the most amazing culinary delights!
Whenever I have a gathering in my house I always make my bread from scratch and many of the guests ask me for the recipe. And here it is!
Even though I am opposed to gluten (wheat, rye, barley), I still decided to post this recipe for you.
If you are going to eat gluten then this is a healthier alternative (because only 4 ingredients – flour, yeast, salt, water) than you can buy in the store; real easy to make (you can make it every day) and of course delicious.
P.S. There are more healthy alternatives breads you can make like sourdough or sprouted, but the processes are more complicated and require more attention. Eating a diet full of baked goods, no matter how good the ingredients are won’t benefit your overall health. Remember to eat in moderation.
INGREDIENTS makes 2 loaves
- 3-1/4 unbleached, all-purpose white flour
- ¾ Tbsp. sea salt
- ¾ Tbsp. granulated yeast (1 packet)
- 1-1/2 cups lukewarm water
Mix all dry ingredients in mixing bowl, add water. Mix all together with a wooden spoon until everything is uniformly moist about 1-2 min (NO KNEADING). Cover with a kitchen towel and allow the mixture to rise at room temperature about 2 – 2- ½ hours, depending on the room’s temperature (up to 5 hours). You can form the bread any time after this period or refrigerate the dough overnight or at least for 3 hours (refrigerated dough is less sticky and is easier to work with).
Prepare a pizza peel by sprinkling it liberally with flour. Sprinkle the surface of your dough with flour and pull off half of the dough and form a loaf with your hands (add more flour as needed).
